Codename Etymology: Pronounced i-'lik-s&r [From Middle English, from Medieval Latin, from Arabic al-iksIr: "the elixir," from al: "the" + iksIr: "elixir," probably from Greek xErion: "desiccative powder," from xEros: "dry"]; a substance held capable of prolonging life indefinitely, or a medicinal concoction.
Powers & History: Healing touch. Josh is classified as an Omega level mutant, being able to heal as much as mental damage or restore Wolfsbane’s powers from a Neuralizer shot. He originally joined up with Donald Pierce’s mutant-hating Reavers, but on his first mission in New York, he discovered he himself was a mutant when he healed his friend. When Pierce was assaulted by Kevin Ford, Josh chose to heal Laurie Collins rather than help him. He refused the invitation to Xavier’s school, but came later when he was deserted by his family and friends. After being accepted to the school, Josh was further crushed when his parents gave up custody of him to the Institute. Unbeknownst to Josh, Dani Moonstar signed the papers and became his legal guardian, as well as his faculty advisor. Josh was roomed with David Alleyne, who had a hard time forgiving him for his past affiliation and for his dumb stunts. David eventually learned to accept Josh, and tries to keep him out of trouble.
Josh became friends with Julian Keller and his friends, and was responsible for reviving the comatose Magma, for which they both got detention. However, their friendship fell apart when Julian learned that Josh had been a Reaver and attacked him. When Wolfsbane returned to the school, Josh became attracted to her and helped her bring in Noriko Ashida. Josh followed Rahne to Salem Center and convinced her to let him heal her mutant powers, which he did in a kiss. Her uncontrolled wolf form attacked him viciously, but he was saved by Laurie. He was taken off pain killers and shocked awake by fellow student Noriko so he could heal his own wounds, which had a strange effect on him, namely turning his skin gold.
Recently, Josh and Laurie went on a sort of date, prompting Rahne to break up with Josh, citing Laurie's feelings as a primary motivation. However, Kevin discovered Josh's relationship with Rahne and told Laurie, who also broke up with Josh. More importantly, Josh was basically ostracized by the rest of his teammates for the remainder of the semester. Another blow to Josh's normal confidence came when he failed to heal Northstar of his fatal wounds, received from Wolverine when the latter was under the Hand's mind-control. Some time afterwards, Elixir was instrumental in saving Cyclops's team from nearly-fatal wounds inflicted by Danger.
| Agent Foley worked for S.H.I.E.L.D. and was partnered with Agent Ford. Using their powers of healing and dessication, respectively, they made an effective interrogation duo. They were at work on the human terrorist Cameron Hodge when Surge II interrupted them, killing the two of them with her super-speed and electrical blasts. |
After M-Day, Josh tried to heal Wallflower when her arm was accidentally dessicated by Wither, and then made the grade as a New X-Man. However, he failed to fix Laurie's arm, nor could he save any of the ex-mutant students when their bus was bombed by Stryker's men. Josh went into severe depression and lashed out at everyone, even slamming Colossus in the head after a Danger Room workout. Then, Josh saw Wallflower's assassination at the hands of a Purifier sniper and he snapped. At this point he was able to reverse his power and induce boils or blisters on Wolverine when the X-Man tried to hold him back. His skin turned black and he went comatose until Hellion later forced him to wake up to heal the severely injured X-23.
Realizing that he needed to learn more anatomy to be effective, Josh started poring through medical texts given to him by Beast, but got the idea to have the Stepford Cuckoos copy all of Beast's biological knowledge to his own brain while Beast slept. Armed with that information, Josh was later able to physically re-grow David Alleyne's heart when it was ripped out by Belasco, and felt confident that he could heal any wound short of full death...
