Destiny

*Note: Marvel's original Destiny was named Paul Destine. However, since his only claim to fame was wiping Namor's mind after WWII, and he has nothing to do with the X-Realm, Irenie Adler will simply be called "Destiny."

Real Name: Irenie Adler
Affiliation: Defenders (spirit form)
Previous Affiliations: Freedom Force, Brotherhood of Evil Mutants (II)
Status: Deceased (Legion)
Alternate-X Versions: Irene (AOA)
Codename Etymology: Pronounced dĕs'tə-nē [From Latin, dēstināre: to determine]; Predetermined events.
Powers & History: Destiny was a powerful precog, with the ability to see many, if not all possible threads of the future. She also used this ability to allow her to "see" where she was going, even though she was blind from birth. She had a very close relationship with Mystique, which was never fully explored, but suffice it to say that they shared a house and raised Rogue together. When Freedom Force went to Muir Island to defend it from the Reavers, Destiny was left in Forge's care, but she told him to go help Mystique instead.

Then, as she had apparently forseen, Legion (then presumably under the control of the Shadow King) killed her. Strangely, after the Shadow King was defeated, Legion began to see visions of Destiny while in his coma. She seemed to be inducing him to try and kill Magneto, precipitating the events of the "Legion Quest" and the "Age of Apocalypse." While Legion's plan failed, and he died in the past, consumed by his own energies, the sorceress Margali somehow managed to keep Destiny's and Legion's souls from departing this world completely, and now uses them to aid her as a new team of Defenders.

Later, Shadowcat discovered Destiny's journal, which contained pages of cryptic prophecies about the end of the millenium and the gathering of The Twelve. It also hinted at the rise of Apocalypse, and death for many of the mutants and the world in general. So far, some of her writings have been proven correct, but the rest are still shrouded in mystery.

A team of X-Men soon left their colleagues to hunt for the rest of Destiny's journals, and found a few more. However, after being shown a prophecy of herself killing Vargas, Rogue realized that the journals are only possiblities, and following them too closely would only lead her to madness, so the quest was abandoned. It should be noted that everything seen of the journals can be traced to events that occurred, but only in retrospect.
