Real Name: Cal'Syee NeramaniDuring that time, Deathbird went on a quest for the Phalkon entity, which turned out to be the Phoenix Force itself! Fortunately, she was stopped by the Starjammers and Excalibur. Later, through a strange twist of fate, it was Deathbird's brainwaves which Professor X latched onto when he and the Starjammers were captured by a group of Warskrulls. Deathbird led the X-Men to defeat the Skrulls, and stepped down to allow Lilandra to take her rightful place as Majestrix.
After the Shi'ar defeated the Kree Empire, Lilandra appointed Deathbird Regent of Hala as a conciliatory gesture, though Deathbird saw it as a means to incerasing her power. Soon after, she called the X-Men for help when the Phalanx attacked the Shi'ar, but after the techno-villains were defeated, she was separated from them and stranded with Bishop on a planet in the Shi'ar Galaxy. She felt that Bishop was worthy to be her consort, although he didn't share those feelings. The two got back into space and happened upon a Stargate and went through it, but ended up in the future on an Earth controlled by the Shi'ar. The daughter of Lilandra and Professor X, a telepath of tremendous power, had killed most of the heroes, including her father, and annexed the Earth to her Empire. The few surviving heroes had formed Team X and operated out of the old Alley. With Bishop's help they attacked the Shi'ar and Deathbird fought her future niece and paralyzed her. Then Bishop and Deathbird were sent back to their own time.
Soon after, Deathbird spotted a human mutant DNA signature coming from a planetoid near their ship's course. She and Bishop went to investigate, but when the landed on the man-shaped rock, Deathbird zapped Bishop with a stun gun. She returned to Earth with new allies she had made on the planetoid, who turned out to be the Living Monolith and dumped Bishop near Las Vegas. Then she took the Monolith to his followers in Egypt. However, when she demanded her payment from her new partner, she was knocked unconscious. The partner, none other than Apocalypse, then enhanced Deathbird's abilities and converted her into War III, third Horseman of the Apocalypse. She was forced to work for Apocalypse until he could achieve his goal, whereupon she was to be allowed to leave Earth for her own Empire. However, Apocalpyse was defeated and Deathbird and her fellow Horsemen were teleported to parts unknown by Mikhail Rasputin.
Somehow, Deathbird returned to the Empire, but she was completely insane. During the "Maximum Security" crisis, when the Shi'ar and other alient races cordoned Earth off and made it a prison planet, Professor X and Cadre K found her on a Shi'ar space station, where she had slaughtered the entire crew with her bare hands. Just at that moment, Bishop returned from his sojourn in an alternate future. Bishop helped track Deathbird down, and got a key from her that would allow Xavier to free Earth. However, Deathbird opened the airlock on them both and was sucked out into space, preferring apparent death to capture.
Somehow, Deathbird survived and was re-captured by the Imperial Guard and incarcerated. Later, when the mutant named Vulcan attacked Shi'ar space and was himself captured, anti-Lilandra forces released Vulcan and led him to release Deathbird. Deathbird convinced Vulcan to join her on her trek back through the Imperium, and they became lovers. Finally, Deathbird took Vulcan to the planet on which her comatose brother D'ken was residing, and for her love, Vulcan healed D'ken's broken mind. Deathbird took a back seat to D'Ken, and aided his attempt to wrest control of the Imperium for himself...
