Codename Etymology: Pronounced dĕd gûrl [From Old English, dēad + Middle English, girle: "child"]; A deceased young female.
Status: Deceased (again)
Powers & History: Dead Girl, as her codename implies, is dead. She has no need to eat or breathe, and can survive unprotected in hard vacuum. She can even reconstituted her body (and clothes) after being disintegrated. Dead Girl also "reads" dead bodies, "talking" in some fashion to the micro-organisms and cells that are still alive on corpses and learning what happened to the deceased, up to and including pre-mortem thoughts. She may also have the ability to animate other dead organic material, but this has not been confirmed yet.

According to Dead Girl, she was an aspiring actress who was murdered by a demented co-star/lover. The dead heard her cries and lured the killer back to the crypt in which he had buried her. Dead Girl awoke and took her revenge on him. She was eventually invited to join X-Force, and joined them on their mission to stop the "Bush Rangers." Dead Girl made it seem as if she could talk to the dead, but this appears to have been a ruse. On the mission, she saved Anarchist's life by taking a laser blast meant for him, then reconstructed herself and save Tike, Orphan and U-Go Girl from explosive decompression a few minutes later. She confessed to Tike that she can't speak to the spirits of the dead, and collapsed. Later, Dead Girl discovered that she could read corpses, and so was able to effect a rescue of the Anarchist who was trapped in a drifting spaceship.

After X-Force was renamed X-Statix, Dead Girl took a leave of absence to watch over the semi-depressed Anarchist as the two performed in a traveling sideshow. They were guilted into coming back to the team to help Orphan fight Arnie Lunt, who would become Mysterious Fan Boy. In the course of all this Dead Girl and Anarchist began as sort of relationship, which seems to have progressed (though their level of intimacy is unknown). Dead Girl also expressed her initial dislike of Venus Dee Milo, apparently feeling competitive with the other girl in the group. Later, however, she reconciled with Venus and helped her defeat Bad Guy, in fact killing it herself.

Dead Girl was part of X-Statix's last mission, which they were hoping would provide enough cash for retirement, but was instead a deadly ambush. Strangely, she was feeling ill before the mission, and while teleporting to the location she started to disintegrate. She never recovered, and it appears that she is dead for good this time.

Some months later, when the Pitiful One used the Eau du Profundis to resurrect himself and other dead super-humans for 24-hour periods, Dead Girl was contacted by Dr. Strange, and agreed to help the Sorcerer Supreme stop the undead menaces. Calling on her "Dead Sisters" (Gwen Stacy, Mockingbird and Moira MacTaggert), Dead Girl helped Strange round up a team of deceased heroes, including Orphan and U-Go Girl, to locate the Eau and stop the carnage. Eventually they succeeded, but along the way Strange appeared to develop feelings for Dead Girl. She seemed to reciprocate somewhat, and even told Strange her real name. Later, Dead Girl used the Eau du Profundis one last time to spend a day with Dr. Strange on Earth, but then it wore off and she returned to the afterlife.
