Real Name: Vanessa Geraldine CarlysleVanessa was kicked out of her house in her early teens, right after her mutant powers manifested. She became a prostitute in Boston, and soon met and fell in love with Wade Wilson, a mercenary. Wade and Vanessa saved up money and intended to make a better life for themselves, until Wade got cancer and gave up on life. Vanessa's life was endangered when Wade botched a merc job and the employer came after her for revenge. She was saved by Zoe Culloden of Landau, Luckman & Lake, who was trying to prevent Wade's self-destruction to use him for a messiah project. Wade then dumped Vanessa, assuming that he wouldn't live long anyway (he eventually became Deadpool thanks to the second Weapon X Program).
Vanessa then went into the mercenary business herself, and came to the attention of Mr. Tolliver, who had her replace Domino in order to get close to Cable. Tolliver's vendetta against Cable was supposed to culminate in Copycat's bombing of X-Force's headquarters. However, as she worked with X-Force, she grew fond of them, and delayed the completion of her mission, to the point that Tolliver sent Deadpool to make her set the bomb, or finish her off and do it himself. Deadpool blew Copycat's cover (they had apparently met since his transformation into Deadpool) and nearly killed Copycat before setting the bomb, which destroyed the facility, though X-Force had already escaped.
Vanessa went into hiding with a friend of hers, disguised as a long lost twin. Unfortunately, she was tracked down by Deadpool and his associate Sluggo, who mistakenly killed her friend instead of her. They failed to capture Vanessa, though, and she next hooked up with Kane in San Francisco. However, Vanessa couldn't stay away from the merc business when Tolliver's will indicated a massive treasure for the "last man standing," and she set off to find it. This brought her into conflict with Deadpool again, and more dangerously, with Slayback, another Weapon X alumnus whom Deadpool had killed years before. Though she no longer loved Wade, Vanessa saved him from Slayback and got gutted in the process. Wade got Vanessa to mimic his healing powers and she survived, returning with Kane to San Fran. She and Kane were aspiring to be actors there when Cable showed up and the three of them got embroiled in a battle with the Psycho-Man in the Microverse.
Some time after that, Vanessa and Kane split up, and she went back to living with Deadpool. However, Wade's infatuation with the former X-Forcer Siryn soon got on her nerves, and she left Deadpool, but not before posing as him and attacking Siryn, so her unfaithful lover would be ditched by her as well.
Recently, Deadpool discovered that Vanessa had previously been captured and enhanced by the new Weapon X Program, and only came back to him to lure him to the program as well. Unfortunately, the procedures that Weapon X put here through messed up her memeory, so she lost track of her mission. When Deadpool was eventually recruited by Sabretooth, he was assigned to kill Vanessa. Still having feelings for her, Wade tried to warn Copycat. However, Vanessa was too far deteriorated to maintain any shape, let alone evade Creed. Deadpool tried to help her as he fought off Kane (who had also returned to Weapon X). He eventually hid Vanessa in the gorilla cage in the Bronx Zoo, hoping he could beat Kane and come back for her. Sabretooth apparently followed, though, and no amount of shape-shifting could fool his tracker's nose. He ripped Vanessa apart and left before Deadpool came back and found her. Vanessa died in Deadpool's arms, causing him to vow revenge on Weapon X.
