THE RETURN Title Page

Synopsis and Review by Silvermoth: Thanks!

Synopsis: Fantasy Island, the maximum security prison in the Negative Zone. The place is unnaturally quiet. The systems have broken down and all the prisoners are free. A security guard quizzes the warden on what to do. But he merely says that he is thinking. The panicked guard starts to worry but the warden tells him to leave. He needs his peace and quiet.

Now is the time for the big reveal. Captain Marvel, previously thought dead as a result of cancer, is alive and well. Turns out when Captain Marvel was meditating in space, he reached out to something which dragged a part of himself into the present day while his other form went on to die of cancer. Sentry is the first person to find the newly resuscitated form of Captain Marvel in the present day. Captain Marvel recognizes him as an old friend. Captain Marvel is full of questions but Sentry merely tells him to wait there while he talks to Iron Man and Mr. Fantastic. Unsure entirely of how this is possible, Iron Man, Sentry and Mr. Fantastic offer him the job of being warden of the new prison set up in the Negative Zone.

Captain Marvel notes how everything has changed. He does not have the inner strength to find his lost love, Elysius, as he knows it’s only a matter of time before the cancer once again returns. He puts on his Nega bonds, which give him his amazing powers. He notes that he is the first person in the world to be given a second chance

Story 2: The Sentry in “The Decision”:

Synopsis: Sentry is flying around looking for someone. He notes what looks like an exploded building just below. He flies down to investigate while CLOC checks the atmosphere for threats. Somehow, CLOC does not notice the Absorbing Man, standing at the ready, behind the Sentry. The Absorbing Man attacks and Sentry is knocked clean through several walls. He cannot resist gloating over so quick a victory until Sentry appears behind him. Sentry tackles the absorbing Man, knocking him towards a garage station. It blows up behind them; the battle is taken to the skies after the absorbing Man absorbs some of the Sentry’s power. The fight for a bit, however, every time Sentry connects with the Absorbing Man, he just gets stronger. Finally Sentry changes tact. He gives the Absorbing Man more power than he can handle, eventually dematerializing him. But he already knows he’ll be back some day. The sentry laments the needless destruction of the area.

Next panel, he is seen walking into SHIELD. Robert Reynolds is finally ready to register with the government.

Review: This was an extremely disappointing issue and certainly not worth buying at all. For one, the Cover gave away who was returning months in advance, taking the shock out of t. There's no love for the character here and the very rejuvenation of this long dead character that died in the most powerful stories arguably Marvel ever told in terms of the entire Marvel Universe and after seeing how Joss Whedon gave Colossus a proper return, this issue just looks really sad. A mere pointless thing to start a new series to assure us that the Civil War is changing the Marvel U. Besides the fact that the Sentry comes off as a superhero version of Fabio in some parts, the art by Raney is okay at least but Jenkins should stay away from doing this sort of thing in the future, which is a shame because he’s actually one of my favorite writers. The second story is not much better and makes as much sense as your average plot hole filled Hollywood action film. This one shot should be avoided by all means necessary to send a clear message of how not to write stories, especially brining back long dead characters and I would certainly not recommend this to anyone.
