"If Looks Could Kill Part 4"
Synopsis & Review by Sikorsky. Thanks! Cable seems more interested in figuring out how Kruch made the Façade virus cut off his access to his mutant abilities, but Deadpool won’t back off. He gets Wade off his back for a few seconds with a well-placed kick to his torso, then pins Kruch to a tree. He threatens to castrate him if he doesn’t tell him how to stop the virus. By now, Wade’s already recovered. Cable continues to fight him, while the T-O virus continues to spiral out of control. He asks Wade if he believes in Kruch’s plan. Wade admits that he doesn’t; but that he thinks it sounds nice. When Cable realizes that Wade won’t discuss the One World church with him seriously, he throws him through a second story window. He ends up in his room. He notes that his healing factor seems to be having a tough time with the Façade virus inside him. Cable goes back to Kruch, whose lackeys haven’t made any progress with getting him off of the tree. It turns out that there is no antidote. The conversation is cut short when Deadpool shoots several bullets into Nate. He then knocks him off a small cliff. Back at the Daily Bugle, Irene speaks to someone at Sunic Pharmacopoeia. She asks about the Spammers and their connection to the theft of an “experimental face-changing virus,” while sketching Cable with a heart around his head. The man refuses to comment; then he insists that it isn’t a virus, and that it doesn’t change faces. Supposedly, what it actually does is a “trade secret”. He mentions a non-disclosure agreement. Her pad also has “Gogo Held in Frankfurt prison,” and “THINK FIVE MOVES AHEAD!” written on her pad, along with Sunic’s number. In a Sunic building in Frankfurt, Germany, some executives discuss the “American reporter.” They’re afraid that someone will find out that the process batch that was stolen was flawed. Beimer says that they have to protect the Singapore facility. Cue Lightmaster: “That research lab already is being protected. That’s why you hired me...” Back in France (specifically, the One World Church), Kruch asks Deadpool where Cable is; Deadpool tells him in he fell through the roof of a warehouse, just below. It turns out that that’s the church’s armory (“how medieval”). Cable makes his entrance with a giant “WABOOM.” He explains that he tried “doing this the hard way.” So now he’s “taking the easy way out.” He’s well armed; his T-O virus looks even worse. The members of the church run, while Deadpool dives out of the way. Kruch heads for a car. Cable’s furious, and demanding that sometime point him toward the scientists. Kruch tells the blue fellow at the wheel that he’s going to Orly; he’s booking a flight out now. Only his computer indicates that the Church’s balance is $0.00. Back at his mom’s house, Hammer decides what to do with the fourteen million dollars: “Three mil for the N.A.A.C.P. Three mil for the Magic Johnson Foundation. Three mil for mom...” The driver becomes aware that he won’t be paid; Kruch tells him just to drive (preferably away from the explosions and fire). Inside, Cable demands that he be told how the deliverance machine worked. The scientists are speechless. An explosion throws Cable: Deadpool again. Cable, whose body continues to turn into a metallic mass (and whose lips have melded into his face) seems to know something that Wade doesn’t. Cable tells him that he needs the machine operational; Deadpool assures him that he knows what he’s thinking: “All your life, fightin’ against Hitler wanna-be’s—only way to end the fight in to become a Hitler yourself!” Cable disagrees; but at this point, he’s unable to fight anymore. Deadpool knocks him down and he stays down. He thinks he’s lost his edge; Cable tells him that the T-O mesh is paralyzing him. Deadpool suddenly realizes the “crap –circus that is pitching a tent on his face.” As Cable explains that the T-O mesh is attacking the Façade, which is inhibiting his powers, which are supposed to keep the T-O mesh in check; and that they’re all eating away at each other, and ripping him apart, Deadpool sees that it’s like Cancer. Cable tells Deadpool that anyone infected with the Façade will melt; Deadpool responds that his antibodies are strong enough to take care of him, even if his healing factor is a bit sluggish of late. Cable thinks that it’s only slowing his melting down. Wade disregards that and walks away: “I’d kill you, but I feel too sorry for you.” He decides to let Kruch decide what to do with him. Cable persists. He’s not sure that a blue world is a good world to live in. Wade likes the elimination of skin color: “one less reason to suck. I call that a start.” Cable explains that Kruch is giving him religion and unity, and taking away hate and thought—his right to opinion. Deadpool doesn’t care: “My opinions only work to cover up the fact that I got nothing.” Cable tells him that he needs his healing factor to override the Façade. Deadpool starts to leave again, when his leg liquefies. Cable says that the only thing that can help him is Deadpool’s blood, and the only thing that can help Wade is his own. He begins to drag himself across the floor, and his body continues to melt. Review: I messed up when I said that last issue’s was the last of the Liefield covers. But next issue’s really is. In the meantime, we have another poorly-drawn, and fairly irrelevant cover that features Cable, yet again, carrying some strange knapsack. The story is great, as is Zircher’s artwork. The dialogue is flawless. I would like to see a little more of Irene Merriweather. I’ve long liked her character. There are some very nice action sequences in here. And the last page is probably the most amusing. I’m still impressed with this book.
