"If Looks Could Kill Part 1: Face to Face"
by Fabian Niceiza and Mark Brooks / Shane Law

Since this is a buddy book, I thought it would be interesting to have 2 reviews of this issue, and see what happens! Maybe we'll get these guys on IM to do an Ebert & Roeper style review from now on! - CX

Synopsis & Review by HulkX. Thanks!
Synopsis: Wade Wilson is sitting alone in his apartment watching television for what appears to be about two days straight. Finally the phone rings. His potential client, called the One World Church wants to pay him a lot of money to do a job in France. After assuring him he wouldn’t be going to a country the US is at war with, he agrees and shows up in Orleans. He’s picked up by two creepy culty bluey people. As always, Deadpool makes fun of them. He meets Anton Kruch, their Prime Minister, who shows DP around the facilities, including the top secret Ministry of Insinuation (That means spies, not people who suggest nasty things about people.)

Apparently, a company named Sunic has made a synthetic virus with “grave consequences for mankind” The One World Church wants it so they can use it for good. DP is kinda curious as to how they’ll do it, but not enough to ask any questions after seeing a briefcase full of cash.

In Germany, a jerky German science guy wants to test something called the façade on a human subject. Little do they know, Cable is listening in on their thoughts and words. Room service shows up and Cable convinces the bellboy (who has the mutant power to emit CO2 when he’s nervous) to go to X-Corp and learn to use his powers wisely. He then calls an old pal at the Daily Bugle (by old pal, I mean Irene Merryweather) and asks he to dig up some info on Sunic. She asks if he is causing trouble. He says “I don’t start trouble, I end it” in true Cable fashion.

Not too much later, DP is breaking into Sunic. Guards aren’t sure quite what to do because there is a breach on the other side as well. That would be Cable. They meet conveniently, on the last page. DP is mocking, Cable is jacked. Violence will be had here next month.

HulkX's Review: Words cannot describe how much I enjoyed this issue. Unfortunately, it is a written review, so I guess I’ll have to invent some. Like superexcellatious. And fantasticalanamo. Some quick backstory on myself. When I was just a young grasshopper, circa 1991, I did not read X-titles religiously. I was a huge Silver Surfer fan, and bigger Transformers fan. I had friends who read X-Men so I kind of kept track of what was going on. Then one day, a friend gave me a comic and told me to keep it. It was X-Force 15 featuring Cable vs. Deadpool in a fight to the finish. I read it about 30 times and picked up the next issue which was part of the X-Cutioner’s Song. I was hooked. So I credit these two characters with my x-obsession.

My only worry was that Nicieza would overlook all the great things that have been done with these characters since he stopped writing them. Gail Simone’s Deadpool and Robert Weinberg’s Cable are two of my favorite comic runs of all time. Apparently my fears were unfounded. The Udon team has made it so that it feels Deadpool hasn’t been gone for a few months since we last saw him in Agent X. Or at least we know where he was, watching PTI and the Daily Show among other things. I love how a lazy villain is one of the most intriguing characters. Cable’s moved on from his Soldier-X or Weapon X days but still traversing the globe looking for hotspots and “fixing trouble”. He still has Irene helping him out, and I just about spit out my drink when he told the hotel worker “Tell Xavier Cable sent you, watch his upper lip tighten.” This man knows his place in the universe and doesn’t care, but also realizes the place of others.

I don’t think I need to mention Deadpool’s comedy in this issue. It’s smart, timely, and over the top as always. I won’t cite specifics, because you need to read it for yourself. Plain and simple: you need this issue, and you need to start collecting this title. I could probably find something wrong to complain about… wait I can’t. I would never complain about France while we are at war with them. Oh we’re not? Germany either? We will be, oh we will be. This issue gets an A+ in my book.

Synopsis & Review by Deadpool79. Thanks!
Synopsis: Starts off with Deadpool at various stages (without costume, in his undies, sans mask) watching tv hours upon hours. From checking out the Olsen twins, claiming Bea Arthur as the sexiest woman on earth and cleaning his guns. The phone rings and asking for Deadpool. Wade leaves and puts his mask on and proceeds to chat with the unknown caller. The caller reveals themself to be from the One World Church in Paris offering DP a job that he declines because "our countries are at war." The caller assures him he is mistaken and offers an undisclosed amount of money.

Fast forward to Orleans Airport. Two cloaked mysterious figures in the middle of normal dressed people holding up a Deadpool sign. Deadpool arrives in disguise and introduces himself.

In the limo Deadpool peels off his disguise. The two cloaked figures(male and female) take down their hoods and reveal a Blue Man Group appearance, disgusting Deadpool.

The group arrives to the church to find more members who all look similar and meet the prime minister, Anton Kruch, freaking out Deadpool more. Anton gives Deadpool a quick rundown of his past life of sin. And what the church (*cough* cult) stands for and goes to explain his mission. Anton leads Deadpool to the inner parts of the church revealing a labratory. A giant pharmiceutical company (a part of the church) Sunic invented a synthetic virus that poses a threat to the future of mankind. Tho the virus may prove beneficial. Deadpool's mission is to retrieve the toxin from a German facility where it is being made.

At the Sunic Pharmacopeia in Germany the head of the company is being tracked telepathically. The telepath is Cable concentrating/levitating upside down. Room service interrupts and Cable has a conversation with the bellhop about him being a mutant and convinces "him to come out of the closet. " Cable sends him to X-Corp and jokes bout Xavier's lip tensing up at the mere mention of his name.

Cable calls Irene Merryweather and asks her to look up the Sunic company. She teases him bout not using his telepathy. He informs her he tried but got a headache because of it and seems to be getting worse. She only helps him if she gets a story out of it.

Shortly at Sunic Deadpool has a whole bunch of guards trying to stop him. He quickly disposes of them making them pay for Brigette Nielsen (she's not German).

Security shocked that they can't stop Deadpool. They get a second breach at the facility on the western side. It's Cable with an invisible bubble like shield walking into the facilty. Employees scatter everywhere.

Cable walks into a room and is shocked to find Deadpool. "Blow my mind if it isn't Nathan Dayspring Askani'son Summers Cable Soldier X or are you just calling yourself Priscilla?"

Deadpool79's Review: That's about it looks like a fight maybe happening in the next issue. All in all I enjoyed this issue. Fabian can write Deadpool after the bad unfunny Gail Simone/agent x arc Deadpool is funny again decent story. Looks like everybody is curious on how Cable/Deadpool will have to be stuck together for the rest of the series. The artwork is good for Udon. I usually don't like that kind of art. Nobody since Frank Tieri's run has written good Deadpool. That's about it. I am very eager to see how the rest of the story progresses.
