Real Name: Unknown:Brainchild was first mutated by Magneto, but lost his powers when the X-Men destroyed the mutating machine. He was later re-mutated, this time permanently. Following Magneto's abandonment of the Savage Land and the death of the usurper Zaladane, Brainchild assumed command of the Mutates. Recently, he caused the (X-Treme) X-Men's Blackbird to crash as they were bringing intelligent Saurians to live in the Savage Land, and captured Storm from the crash site. He manipulated her genes to bring out her primal natures, and also had Lupa exert control over Beast. He planned to conquer the joint human-Saurian settlement that contained most of the Savage Land tribes, but his plot was foiled by the X-Men. Storm and Beast were returned to normal, but Brainchild got away.
Recently, Brainchild appeared to assist the X-Men in saving the Savage Land (and by extension, the world) from the militant Saurian race, the Hauk'ka. However, he was likely not revealing a hidden agenda, given that he had Ka-Zar under Leash's control. In addition, he was responsible for setting up the massive superhuman jailbreak that led to the formation of the New Avengers, who eventually came to the Savage Land to stop him. The jailbreak was staged to rescue Karl Lykos (Sauron), who had been incarcerated since the end of the second Weapon X program. Though Sauron was apparently assassinated by Black Widow II (now Super-Adaptoid II), Brainchild seemed to escape capture.
Later, Brainchild experimented on Tyrannosaurs, giving them implants and possibly gene therapy to generate mutant powers and increased intelligence in the giant lizards. Jim Rhodes, now working for the Office of National Emergency, took a Sentinel Squad to investigate, but the robots were destroyed. Two more squads were sent, but Lex saw the futility of the frontal attack ordered by Sgt. Steele and disobeyed orders to escape destruction. He then led his squad back, but sacrificed their robots, using them as decoys while they rescued Commander Rhodes and Skylark, capturing Brainchild in the process.
