Prologue to the Civil War X-Over

Synopsis & Review by RachelGrey:
Synopsis: Spider-Man chases after Titanium Man and the two continue to fight. Spider-Man’s new gliding abilities help him and his spider-legs allow him to damage the Titanium Man’s helmet and sensors. Spidey continues to beat on his enemy before he flies off.

The next day, the meeting continues. Tony uses Spider-Man’s fight as an example for why costumed heroes are needed. He reminds the Senators that the bad guys are not bound by the rules and will try to exploit the new law. Tony then shows footage from the fight and the Senators question its authenticity. Spider-Man then shows up in the room from the ceiling and vouches for it. Spidey says that the problem is after registration comes regulation. If the government starts to decide what Superhumans should and shouldn’t get involved in, then there will be problems. A lot of Superhumans get involved in things the government wouldn’t. With that, Spider-Man suggests a type of Good Samaritan Law. The Senators tell Spidey he has good points, but for them to be used he must take off his mask and swear to his testimony under oath. Spider-Man says he can’t do that and the Senators say that’s why this law isn’t going to go away. The Senator reminds Spider-Man that he may be above the ground, but he is certainly not above the law. With that, spider-Man leaves.

After the meeting, Tony meets up with Peter. Peter apologizes for speaking up again, but Tony says he gaze the Senators a lot to think about. He hopes that the law may get bogged down in the process ad possibly die of its won weight. As they leave, Peter wonders aloud how Titanium Man knew Tony was going to be Washington when only the Senate knew. Peter begins to ask Tony if he would tell him if he had a hand in Titanium Man’s appearance given how much it helped their cause. Tony says he would definitely tell Peter something like that.

Later that night, The Titanium Man stands in a forest. He is then met by Iron Man! Iron Man hands him a briefcase full of money and tells him Tony Stark appreciates his help. Titanium Man then mocks Tony and asks him how he’ll feel when his government turns on him before leaving.

In his home, Peter waits while MJ showers. He turns on the TV and falls asleep as an important announcement comes on. Something about an incident in a little place called Stamford…

Review: JMS and Kirkham produce another decent issue. It wasn’t as good as last issue, but still a decent read. The fight with Titanium Man is another fight showcasing Spidey’s new costume, which is good, but it went on a tad too long. The part where Spider-Man stops and starts reading the words on the Lincoln Memorial is just dumb. Yes, Spider-Man’s a tad ADD, but that was a little much. However, as a Rocky And Bullwinkle fan, the “Moose and Squirrel” jokes were quite funny. I didn’t find Spider-Man’s “testimony” so compelling honestly. The wording seems little awkward there. Tony still made some good points though. On the topic of Tony, we begin to see how he’s not being a real “good guy” here. He pays off Titanium Man! Well Tony Stark does, not Iron Man since people still believe they are different people. Tony may not necessarily be “bad”. He’s just doing whatever he can in a “The ends justify the means” line of thinking. He’s still a jerk in my mind though lol. Kirkham’s art is pretty much on par as last issue. His Iron Man looks a little off, but he only appeared in two panels so it’s not a big deal. Still no other problems with his art though. And with that, we close of the Civil War build up and get into the real meat as we see the beginning of the event. Things are about to get very difficult for Mr. Parker and I think it’ll make for some good stories.
