Askani
Real Name: n/a
Affiliation: Clan Askani
Powers: The Askani (meaning "outsider") were formed by Rachel
Summers after she took Captain Britain's place
in the timestream and was hurled 2000 years into the future. They are a collection
of telepaths and telekinetics, with limited time-travel abilities. Mostly, they
can project their astral forms across time. One such traveler, calling herself
"Askani," was able to retain a corporeal form in the 20th century in order to
save Nathan Christopher Summers (Cable), who was known
to be the "Chosen One," the man who would save them from Apocalypse.
She came to X-Factor's Ship
during the team's battle with the Dark Riders,
and could only watch as Ship lifted off and blew up. Somehow, Askani made it to
the Moon, where the energy field of Ship's AI had brought the X-Factor team. After
the defeat of Apocalypse, Askani revealed herself to Cyclops, who was concerned
for Nathan's life, as Apocalypse had infected the boy with a techno-organic virus
that was converting his cells into living machinery. Askani told Cyclops that
she could save Nathan's life by taking him to the future. Cyclops agreed, knowing
that he would never see his son again, but at least Nathan would live. "Askani"
never made it back to the future, as she only had enough energy to maintain her
form for a one-way trip. However, she did manage to transfer Nathan (in Ship's
protective energy cocoon) to the waiting Sisterhood, whose leader, the Mother
Askani (Phoenix III), had known what would happen. Ironically, in trying to save
Nathan, the Askani created the clone who would one day become the Chaos-Bringer,
Stryfe.
The Askani Sisterhood was decimated just after
Nathan Summers arrived in the future, but their teachings lived on in Madame
Sanctity, who fled with some others to the forest of Ebonshire. There she
trained Aliya, who would later train
Cable himself. When Ebonshire was destroyed, the Sisterhood went with it, but
their essence lived on in the Clan Chosen. Presumably the woman called "Askani" did not survive the first Askani Massacre, and certainly not the second, if she even made it physically back to the future to begin with.
