Codename Etymology: Pronounced ən'ōlē [From French anolis, of Cariban origin]; The genus of Western Hemisphere lizards with a dewlap (throat flap) and camoflauge abilities, often mistakenly referred to as chameleons.
Powers & History: Victor has a reptillian physiology that has given him a green carapace instead of hair, a long pretensile tongue, increased strength, speed and agility, the ability to adhere to walls and a camouflage power that reacts depending on his emotions.
Victor is a well-loved student from a small town that accepted him as a mutant until some bigotry crept in. His concerned parents sent Victor to the Institute to train. At first he was on Karma's Squad but changed to Northstar's soon after. Victor looked up to Northstar and came to terms with his sexuality thanks to his mentor, he was devastated when Jean-Paul died.
Victor was close friends with Julian Keller aka Hellion as well. Whether Victor is openly gay or has told the rest of the school has not been discussed yet. However he remains a friendly character to most all the students even though he was not selected as a New X-Man after the brawl between the still-powered students after M-Day.
Later, after Stryker's raid on the Institute, the New X-Men asked Anole to cover for them as they went to save Forge from Nimrod III. In another instance, Anole found Northstar alive and well when his former teacher was sent by the Children to attack the X-Men. Victor's presence appeared to shake Jean-Paul, but his brainwashing kicked in and Northstar hit Anole viciously, knocking him out.
After M-Day when the students were transported to Limbo by Belasco, who was searching for Magik, Anole's right arm was severed by a demon. Magik (in her Darkchilde incarnation) appeared and bound the kids in stone when she demanded Pixie's soul to create a new Soulsword. During the process, however, Anole broke free of his bonds, having grown a new arm. This arm, however, was much more muscular, and scaled like the crown of his head.
