Wolverine

Real Name: James Howlett
Affiliation: X-Men
Previous Affiliations: Brotherhood of Mutants, Weapon X, Canadian Army
Relatives: Wife (unnamed, presumed deceased), child (gender unknown, presumed deceased)
Powers & History: Wolverine has quick regenerative capabilities, heightened senses, as well as bones and three claws on each hand that are coated with adamantium. He is also untraceable by telepathy and radar signals. Much remains a mystery about Logan's life. At one point he was married and at some time he entered the Weapon X program. He was treated as nothing more than a killing machine, though on one mission during the Gulf War he saved the wounded Nick Fury's life, carrying him back to base through miles of desert, proving he still had humanity. With Fury's clandestine help, Wolverine eventually escaped Weapon X and became a professional assassin. At some point in the past, Wolverine had a brief liason with Black Widow, but they broke up when they could no longer use each other for information.

With the life Wolverine led, it was little wonder that Magneto was able to recruit him. Logan was assigned to infiltrate the X-Men and kill Xavier since his Weapon X training made him immune to mind probes. Magneto arranged for Wolverine to be captured by Weapon X so that the X-Men could rescue him, thus allaying suspicion of Wolverine's willingness to join.

On arrival Wolverine immediately began trying to seduce Jean. After apparently consummating their relationship on a trip to Washington, he confessed to her that he was hired to kill Xavier, but that he now believed in the Professor's doctrine. Regardless, Jean was furious about his treachery. Wolverine proved his sincerity by attacking Magneto and saving Xavier.

Wolverine began searching for remnants of Weapon X, so he was away when Col. Wraith sent Weapon X agents to capture the X-Men. Wolverine sought help from the Brotherhood and allowed himself to be captured by Weapon X so that the Brotherhood would be led to Weapon X headquarters. He also called in a favor from Nick Fury, who was more then willing to close down the corrupt Wraith's organization.

Following this incident, Wolverine seemed to respectfully stand aside so that Scott and Jean's relationship could grow. However, on a mission to the Savage Land, Wolverine let Cyclops fall to his supposed death when he could have saved Scott. Scott reunited with the team during a battle with Magneto. After the fight, Scott promptly threw Wolverine off the team. Scott soon asked Wolverine to rejoin the team and offered to help him uncover more about his past. It appears that Wolverine turned down Scott's offer. Soon afterwards, Wolverine asked for Spider-Man's help when he was attacked by some mysterious operatives who were tracking him using information in his Weapon X file. Wolverine was shot multiple times on several occasions, and was also helped by Daredevil. Fortunately, Spider-Man called the X-Men in and Wolverine returned to the Mansion, where Professor X attempted to help him figure out who his pursuers were.

Xavier attempted to probe Wolverine's mind and discovered that the soldiers were unemployed Weapon X guards. Afterwards, Wolverine had a brief discussion with Jean in which she threatened to kill him if he so much as had a sexual thought about her. Wolverine never discovered the identities of his attackers because they chose suicide over capture.

Wolverine's next mission was to kill a young man who manifested the mutant power of secreting an airborne bio-toxin. It was unclear if Xavier or Nick Fury sent Wolverine on this mission.
