Synopsis & Review by Blink51185 Thanks!:
Synopsis: At the Triskelion, paramedics attended to the wounded from the Hulk's attack. Betty Ross and Nick Fury make their way to the elevator and Betty admits she feels responsible for what Bruce did. Fury tries to comfort her, but she knows she has been terrible to Banner, but is still kinda flattered that he did it all for her. Fury asks about how the Ultimates will handle the reaction that one of their own was the Hulk, but Betty tells him that the public just won't find out.

Meanwhile, the rest of the Ultimates are now stars and all hold various interviews. Thor says that he is still not part of the team, just felt obligated to help out. Jan tells Oprah that Hank is fine, and that his ego was hurt more than anything. Later, Fury comments to Jan over the phone how she seems to love the celebrity thing. She has plans to join the team at Stark's house tonight for dinner, but Fury is skeptical that Thor will show up. Jan is optimistic, as Thor and Stark seemed to have hit it off, and Fury realizes that all the time they were trying to recruit him, they never once invited Thor for dinner.

At Stark's place, Cap and Thor arrive together. Stark is enthusiastic about the win over the Hulk, but Steve is a bit unsettled by the fact that the public is being kept from knowing that Banner is the Hulk. Stark takes them through his house (which is going through massive house cleaning) and sits them down to dinner, complete with the sardonic butler and all.

At the Pyms, Jan is all ready to go to Tony's, but Hank is still busy at his computer. He makes an excuse about having to work on his Ant-Man helmet for not going to dinner. Jan figures he's upset about being beat by the Hulk and tries to comfort him. It only makes him more mad, and he goes on to ask if she's dressed up nice for Steve Rogers or Tony Stark. He's angry because every picture he's seen of her in the papers shows her kissing Captain America, but he knows they'd be disgusted if they knew what she really was: a mutant! It turns out Wasp's powers aren't the mistake of Hank's experiments, but instead her mutation. She lays eggs every six weeks and Hank tells her he finds the whole thing disgusting. The fight escalates and she screams that he didn't mind it when he used her blood to create the Giant-Man formula and when S.H.I.E.L.D. promoted him. He accuses her of saying he can't do anything on her own, and she gets in his face and tells him that Bruce Banner is twice the geneman he'll ever be. In a fit of rage, Hank hits Jan in the jaw. He immediately tries to make condolences, but Jan elbows him in the nose and smashes a tape recorder across his face.

Back at Stark's, the three guys are having a nice dinner. Thor tells the others that he is indeed the a Norse god sent by Valhalla to purify the Earth. He's known it since he was 12, but it didn't all become clear until his nervous breakdown. Stark asks why Thor won't join, and Thor responds in doing so, he would have to agree with everything the government does and he simply will not do that. But if people's lives are ever in danger, all the Ultimates have to do is call him.

Back at the Pym's, the fight is out of control. More punches are thrown, and Wasp shrinks to an inch tall, continually stinging Hank. He gets a can of bugspray and sadistically sprays his wife with it while taunting her. She hides under a desk and begs for Hank to stop. Hank ignores her and puts on his Ant-Man helmet and commands the ants to swarm and cover Janet Pym, saying that Jan should have never made him look small to the world.

Thor asks why a billionaire like Stark would join up for something like the Ultimates. Thor thinks its for tax purposes, Cap thinks its for the girls, but in actuality its because Stark has an inoperable brain tumor the size of a golfball. He has anywhere between 6 months and 5 years left to live. That is why he has been donating his money and possessions away, joined the team, and been trying to make the world a better place. To lighten the mood, Stark asks Jarvis to bring in the present he has for Cap. It's his original helmet used back in World War II that Stark had in his collection. They all make a toast to absent friends, especially Banner who without they probably would not be there together.

Meanwhile, Hank Pym sits alone in the middle of his wrecked apartment, stunned by what he has done.

Review: Wow wow wow wow wow. Wow. Is anyone out there not reading this title? Trust me, if you have read anything of Ultimate X-Men and liked what Millar did, this title is ten times better. The characters of this book have so much depth to them that all others pale in comparison. In previous issues, it was hinted at that Hank had problems (marital and otherwise) but I did not expect anything like this to happen. He's even more despicable than Banner, who I actually can't help feeling sorry for. Add to it the fact that Wasp was really a mutant all along and Stark has a brain tumor, and the character development of this book is simply amazing. (I'm not big on the original Avengers, but didn't the original Iron Man need his suit to survive due to heart problems. Maybe this Stark will be confined to his suit in the same manner.) When Hank sprayed Jan with the bugspray, Millar wrote him as much more than the abusive husband, but instead of some crazed lunatic. Great job.

And of course, this is the reason we will be getting so many additions to the team. Banner is hospitalized, Hank probably going to jail, Jan either dead or in bad shape. It'll be interesting to see if the likes of Black Widow and the rest will be as interesting as the existing characters. I was too engrossed in the story to pay much attention to Bryan Hitch's art, but I'm sure it was top notch, as everything about this title seems to be.
