Real Name: Nathaniel EssezNathaniel Essex used to be an employee of Norman Osborn’s company, Oscorp. However Essex got fired when it was discovered he was performing some unethical experiments. Unfortunately what these experiments exactly were haven’t been revealed yet. Later, Essex began worshipping a powerful being called Apocalypse. He idolized Apocalypse so much it apparently drove him insane a bit, and it isn’t known if Essex got his powers from Apocalypse or if it’s part of his mutation. Either way, Essex believed that Apocalypse could make him more powerful if he sacrificed the lives of four young mutants to him, so Apocalypse could return back to Earth and wreck havoc there.
Sinister did as told and succesfully killed some mutants. This eventually caught the attention of both local police officers, the X-Men and SHIELD. However Fury ordered the X-Men to stay out of this situation in fear of losing their lives as well. The X-Men refused not to do anything and went hunting for Sinister’s wereabouts. Apocalypse apparently didn’t have enough with the powers of four mutants and sent Sinister to do some more killing. One of these new victims was a young mutant named Jean-Paul Beaubier (Northstar). Sinister almost succeeded in killing him, but Jean-Paul dodged the bullet and was only wounded.
Apocalypse apparently punished Sinister for his failure. Sinister decided to make up for his mistakes by killing all of the X-Men at their home, and knew where to find their school. The X-Men continued their hunt and with Northstar’s help learned where Sinister’s apartment was. They also discovered that Apocalypse was apparently just a dressed-up puppet, and thought they were just dealing with a maniac. Sinister gave the X-Men a harsh battle and even almost managed to kill Professor Xavier, but thanks to the quick interference of the more adult X-Men members, Nick Fury and SHIELD, Sinister got arrested and got placed in a cell below the Triskelion, the headquarters of the Ultimates.
At his cell, an image of Apocalypse appeared in front of Sinister. Apocalypse was so angry at Sinister this time he told the madman to choke himself, but didn't kill him. Later, Sinister was seen inside his Triskelion cell again when Magneto escaped, but they didn’t free Sinister as well because they found him too mad to work with, and left him trapped in his jail.
