Powers & History: Kitty has the ability to phase, or pass through, solid objects. She could not easily control her powers at first, causing her to phase through the floor of her mother's apartment, as well as phase through the ground from time to time. Kitty's mother e-mailed Xavier and arranged a meeting at the Institute. Kitty seemed more impressed by Colossus's physique than the actual school. Theresa was willing to leave her daughter as long as she was not allowed to go on missions. Xavier was reluctant, but accepted due to the fact that Iceman was wounded during the fight against David.

However, when Wolverine and Cyclops went on a mission to the Savage Land, Kitty stowed away on the X-Jet. Cyclops and Logan forced her to say on the jet while they went on the mission. When she called Xavier to admit what she had done, he told her that he would send her home as soon as they returned. Kitty phased through to the underground tunnels where Cyclops and Wolverine were because she saw a dinosaur sniffing around the plane. In doing so, she phased through an evil robot that evolved from Magneto's AI computer, killing it.

With Magneto's return, the X-Men used Kitty on missions. Even after Magneto's defeat, Kitty was not expelled from the Institute. As time passed, she grew closer with Iceman, and eventually they kissed, but Rogue, Iceman's then-girlfriend saw it, leading to her leaving the team. Kitty started dating Bobby, and went on fewer missions as the X-Men's ranks grew. However, she dumped Bobby when she found out that he was secretly emailing Rogue and still had feelings for her.

Feeling down, she called Peter Parker (Spider-Man) and asked him out. Peter accepted, though he was a bit wary of a relationship since his old girlfriend Mary Jane kept nearly getting killed because she knew about his identity. Kitty proved to Peter that an intangible girlfriend would be able to protect herself, and together they stopped the Shocker before Kitty had to go home. Lately Kitty has been going into New York on free nights to patrol with Spidey, during which time she often wears a different (non-X-Men) costume (SPOILER - click for pic) .
