Powers & History: Magician can alter reality to his liking. He does not have good control of this ability, and often his subconscious takes over and warps reality without conscious effort. There appear to be no time and space limits to Magician's powers, which can act over very great distances.

When Elliot Boggs's powers began manifesting themselves, he believed that he killed his parents accidentally. He was found and arrested by SHIELD. Nick Fury decided to hand Elliot over to the X-Men, so Xavier could help the boy train his powers. After a quick mindscan and telepathic session, Xavier woke Elliot and asked Cyclops to take him on a tour.

Elliot was eager to join the team, but Cyclops refused, until the Academy of Tomorrow got attacked by a new incarnation of the Brotherhood. Colossus (attending the Spring Dance with Northstar) phoned for help, and Cyclops allowed Elliot to accompany the X-Men to Chicago. On board the Blackbird, Magician created his uniform by using his powers. Strangely, the Brotherhood didn’t reveal what they were after, which is something they always did. The team defeated the evil mutants and Elliot proudly demonstrated his powers, not even breaking a sweat while the other X-Men got badly beaten. Elliot became much appreciated among the X-Men in a short time and made them popular again in the public eye.

Later, Nick Fury again visited the school. He confronted Xavier about Elliot and wanted him on his team of the Ultimates. Fury claimed he had never handed Elliot over to Xavier, because someone with his powers, Fury would have kept for himself. Xavier suspected they were dealing with illusions and that Elliot somehow created them. But, Xavier also believed Elliot wasn’t out to hurt them, because he didn’t feel anything weird about him.

When the X-Men and Elliot returned from a mission, they were confronted by Xavier and Fury who revealed the truth to the team, and also told Elliot they know he didn’t really kill his parents. Elliot went crazy and the X-Men attacked him, with Elliot claiming he just wanted to be a part of them and be accepted. But, with the X-Men continuing to attack the boy, he got angry and trapped them all, out to kill him. But on that moment, Elliot got confronted by Jean Grey, who was ready to take him out. Elliot fought back, manifesting the Brotherhood again, but eventually Wolverine was able to stab Magician in the chest, killing him.

However, Magician was not dead, and had created the entire scenario to allow himself to escape. He later appeared to Kitty on the Institute grounds, and explained to her what he had done, and that it was mostly subconscious. He said he was going away to further develop his powers without risking anyone else's life. Then he wiped Kitty's mind of the encounter and disappeared.
