Powers & History: Karma has the ability to read and control minds. As an agent of S.H.I.E.L.D., Xi'an served under Nick Fury. She used to power to scan the President's mind to confirm that he was not under mind control. The President liked her so he had her pulled from S.H.I.E.L.D. to serve under the government-sponsored New Mutants team.

In their first public appearance, the New Mutants were attacked by Sentinels, and Karma did not even get to use her power, thanks to the X-Men's intervention. Following the attack and Beast's death, Karma possessed the Chairman of the Joint Chiefs and got the Vice-President to incriminate himself regarding the plan to discredit mutants and assassinate the President. She did not join the rest of the mutants at the Xavier Institute, returning instead to work with General Fury and S.H.I.E.L.D.
