Powers & History: Alex has the power of energy redistribution. Years ago, Professor Xavier spoke with both Alex and Scott about attending the Institute. Scott, the younger of the two brothers, accepted the offer, while Alex declined. Alex and Scott had not spoken since, though it seems that was partly because Scott was originally dating Lorna Dane, who left him for Alex. Later, Alex left Lorna in order to join the government sponsored New Mutants. Alex's goal was to become more famous than his brother.
In their first public appearance, the New Mutants were attacked by Sentinels, and Havok did not even get to use his power, thanks to the X-Men's intervention. Following the attack and Beast's death, Havok and the rest of the mutants joined the Xavier student body, with the approval of General Fury. Though Alex wanted to learn about his powers and make up for his freezing during the Sentinel attack, he chose to join Emma Frost on a trip back to her school, rather than stay at the Xavier Institute in his brother's shadow.
Havok (reunited with Lorna) became Frost's key field leader of volunteer assistance missions. On one such mission, Lorna's powers went berserk and she killed some firefighters. Alex was forced to fire on her to stop the carnage. When Lorna was taken into S.H.I.E.L.D. custody, Alex plotted to free her, recruiting Northstar, Cannonball and Doug Ramsey to help him. Together they confronted the X-Men, and Alex knocked out Scott with a blast. He then had Northstar run him through the standoff between the rest of the X-Men and the Ultimates, allowing then to close in on the Triskelion.
