Real Name: Emma FrostAfter leaving Xavier, Emma found employment in a school district, where she began mutant seminars. The governor of the state where she worked supported her work and introduced her to the President's chief of staff. Emma met with the President about the formation of a group of non-X-Men mutant spokesmen. The proposal was accepted and Emma was given a white costume and introduced to the public.
In their first public appearance, the New Mutants were attacked by Sentinels, and Emma did not even get to use her power, thanks to the X-Men's intervention. Instead Emma nearly attacked the humans who approached her after the Sentinels were stopped. Following the attack and Beast's death, Emma and the rest of the mutants joined the Xavier student body, with the approval of General Fury. However, Emma felt that Xavier had turned too cold in the wake of Hank's death and left, taking Havok with her to check out her old school in Chicago.
Over the next few months, Emma (re-?)opened the Academy of Tomorrow in Chicago, with Havok as her prize pupil helping her recruit other gifted children such as Northstar, all-time Jeopardy! champion Doug Ramsey, and Havok's girlfriend Polaris. Under Emma's supervision, those students who completed leadership training were tasked with assisting local authorities when so requested, but they did not undertake voluntary vigilante missions. Emma recently invited Roberto DaCosta to join the Academy, but plans were interrupted when Polaris's powers went haywire and killed six firefighters.
