Review: Ultimate X-Men #1/2

Powers & History: Cyclops fires energy beams from his eyes. The power is uncontrollable so he must wear a visor to regulate his powers. An orphan taken in by Professor Xavier, Scott became the leader of the X-Men. On their second mission, Beast was severely wounded by an anti-mutant attack. Because of this (and because Wolverine was putting the moves on Jean - whom Cyclops had affections for) Scott became disillusioned with Xavier's goals and joined the Brotherhood. However, Magneto's heavy-handed tactics seemed no better and Cyclops rejoined the X-Men when Magneto reprogrammed an army of Sentinels to kill all humans in America.

After the battle with Xavier's son David, Cyclops' relationship with Jean began to take off. Unfortunately, Wolverine did not take the situation lightly (though he acted gentlemanly around Jean and supposedly backed off). While on a mission to the Savage Land, Scott was betrayed by Wolverine, who let him fall into a deep pit. Cyclops lay there with several broken bones and hallucinations brought on by thirst and hunger, until he was rescued by Magneto's forces. When the X-Men arrived to stop the Master of Magnetism before he could destroy the world, Cyclops awoke and joined his teammates in the battle. Afterwards, Cyclops threw Wolverine off the team, but he later repented and asked Logan to come back.

Scott's relationship with Jean took another unexpected turn when the Phoenix killed a couple of black ops soldiers who were spying on X-Mansion.
