Powers & History: Super strength, speed, endurance. While growing up during the Great Depression, Steve Rogers was an unathletic boy that was often beat up. However, he volunteered to participate in the Super Soldier program that was developed during World War II, despite his fiancee Gail's wishes. The result was Captain America, the perfect soldier. He is strong, smart, fast, and is an expert and hand-to-hand combat. Cap often took photographer James "Bucky" Barnes with him, leading to his national exposure and fame. He was involved in many raids, including one to blow up a supply train with alien technology, and never used a parachute. Six months before Steve and Gail's wedding, Cap was sent on a mission to prevent Nazis from launching an attack that would destory Washington D.C. Although Cap managed to denonate the bomb over the ocean, preventing catastrophe, the explosion hurled him into the icy North Atlantic, where it was thought by all (including Gail) that he perished.

Sixty years later, however, Cap's body was found, completely frozen. At this time, Dr. Bruce Banner was trying to replicate the original Super Soldier serum that created Captain America, with unsuccessful results. Steve was revived, with S.H.I.E.L.D. hoping to use his blood to copy the serum. When Steve awoke, he believed it was still WWII, and those around him were Nazis. He broke free of the hospital and managed to take out some of S.H.I.E.L.D.'s top guards before being subdued by Giant Man. Later, Cap learned that Gail had married his best friend and war buddy, Bucky Barnes, who were both still living, but very old. When Banner tried to mix his own formula for the serum and Cap's blood, he was transformed into the Hulk and raged through Manhattan. And though it was Wasp who eventually took Hulk down, Cap had the key role of the fight. He dropped a tank on the Hulk, and then managed to go toe-to-toe to him in hand-to-hand combat. Cap suffered a few broken bones, but was still standing by the end of the fight. Cap's transition to the 21st centry was made easier by his teammate, Wasp, and though his staunch morals would never allow him to pursue a married woman, it was obvious that Steve cared deeply for Wasp. When Giant Man nearly killed Wasp in a fit of rage, Steve quickly took a helicopter from S.H.I.E.L.D. and tracked him down to Chicago, duping the agents into believing that he was under orders from Fury.

Cap found Pym at the Red Lion Pub and antagonized him until Pym turned to Giant-Man. Steve then methodically attacked Pym until he was positioned under a suspended bunch of steel pipes. Cap threw a garbage can lid to cut the rope and Pym was Cap managed to get back in time to lead the assault on the Chitauri (AKA Skrulls), who had been the masterminds behind the Nazi campaigns in WWII and were trying to restart their conquests in a last-ditch attempt to maintain their empire. During the fight Cap faced down Kleiser, his old nemesis from WWII, though he couldn't beat him directly. Instead, Cap had the soldiers throw Banner out of a helicopter, causing him to become the Hulk, and the Hulk killed and ate Kleiser.

Some months later Cap and Janet Pym were an official item, but rumors of a traitor pointed to Cap and he was ambushed and incarcerated by his own colleagues. When the international super-team the Liberators took over the United States and the traitor was revealed as Black Widow, Wasp was able to free Cap and they went looking for revenge...
