After the X-Men defeated Magneto for the first time, Storm began to show affection for Henry. At first he found it hard to believe that she would ever fall for someone like him, but it was something that he wasn't exactly going to protest either. When the X-Men were captured by Weapon X, Dr. Cornelius augmented Beast's abilities (as well as giving him a keen sense of smell). This furthered his transformation, causing him to grow blue hair all over his body and giving him claws on his hands and feet.
During the X-Men's tour of Europe, Storm posed the possibility that Xavier was telepathically manipulating the X-Men. Beast's insecurities caused him to become obsessed with the possibility that Storm's affections were nothing but Xavier's manipulation. He broke off their relationship and became increasingly secluded. During this time, he began a relationship over the Internet with a "Mutantchick" AKA "Naomi" who was in reality Blob of the Brotherhood. Blob only intended to jerk Beast's chain, but ended up discovering the truth about Magneto: that he was in fact alive and had been mindwiped by Xavier. Blob lured Beast out to a "meeting" and the Brotherhood beat the X-Man and took the information from his head. When Magneto returned, Storm told Beast that they were officially history.
With Xavier captured by S.H.I.E.L.D., the X-Men were forced to stop Magneto on their own. During that time, Beast asked Storm if there was any part of her that still cared now that there was no chance of Xavier manipulating them. Storm told her blue beau that she never stopped caring. After the defeat of Magneto, Beast was surprised to see his parents accept him with open arms. It seems they had cashed in on the publicity caused by the X-Men and all the money generated a great deal of love for their profitable mutant son.
With the arrival of Warren Worthington III to the Mansion, Hank caused trouble by chatting too much on the Internet (yet again), causing people to swarm around the gate of the Mansion in hopes of seeing the "angel." Warren's presence at the Mansion caused Hank to become insecure (yet again), and caused problems with Hank's relationship with Storm (yet again), especially after Xavier noted that Warren was attracted to Storm and used that link to have Ororo convince Angel to return. Beast left the Institute and joined a government sponsored group known as the New Mutants. Members of the president cabinet conspired to destroy the New Mutants program. A Sentinel attacked as the president introduced the New Mutants to the world. During the attack, Beast was caught in an explosion and buried under stone (yet again). He did not survive, and was buried on the Xavier Institute grounds.
Recently, however, it was revealed that Hank in fact did survive the Sentinel attack and was kept hidden by SHIELD to work on "Project Legacy." Nick Fury and Professor Xavier conspired (using Xavier's telepathy) to make Hank think he was regularly in communication with his friends and family, when in reality they all thought him dead. While working at the Triskelion, Hank also reversed almost all of Weapon X's physical changes to his body, except the fangs. After Professor X was himself seemingly killed (really sent to the future), Hank's mind cleared and he realized what had been done to him. However, due to the critical nature of Project Legacy, he agreed to keep working.
In reality, Beast deceived Fury and escaped from the Triskelion. He went to the Mansion in hopes of finding Storm, but gave up when Fury’s men showed up. He was there to save both Pyro, and later Storm from the Sentinels. It took some convincing, but he managed to not only get them believe him, but also got Storm back.
