Real Name: Warren Worthington IIIWarren felt uncomfortable at the Institute. These feelings climaxed with the arrival of a crowd of people who believed Warren to be a real angel. After a conversation with Storm, Warren decided to confront the crowd and admit that he was nothing more than a mutant.
Warren asked Wolverine to give him combat training, but did very poorly in his first session. During the Sentinel attack on the New Mutants, Wolverine asked Warren to fly him up to the Sentinel's head. Warren proved to be inept in combat and only managed to get Wolverine to the robot's chest.
Later, over his own reservations, Angel agreed to fly Dazzler, Colossus and Nightcrawler to Genosha to try and rescue convicted murderer Longshot from the reality hunting show run by Mojo Adams. He was subsequently captured and his wings pinned to the wall by Mojo. Following his rescue and the revelation that Longshot was indeed guilty, Warren covered for Alison by admitting to the Professor that the unauthorized mission was his idea, because he figured that Ali would have gotten expelled, while he only got suspended for the duration of his convalescence. Meanwhile, Alison got turned on by his actions and dragged him to her room.
Later, while flying with Ali around New York, Angel saw a commotion at the Triskelion and they went to investigate. Ali was skewered by Deathstrike, and when they returned to the school, Professor Xavier expelled Angel. However, the explusion was a ruse, as Xavier sent Angel to Emma Frost's Academy of Tomorrow to report on the students there, since they had attacked the Triskelion to free Polaris, who had been framed by Magneto. After being “expelled”, he got wrapped up in the Deadpool incident and the attack on the Academy by the “Brotherhood” created by Magician.
Angel's reports were minimal, and when Professor X was apparently killed by Cable, he tried to find out if Xavier had left instructions for him, or perhaps a repatriation, but no such notes existed. Then he heard that Dazzler had awakened, but could not find her anywhere. She tracked him down after Bishop recruited her into the new X-Men, which she offered to him. He joined up, even though Bishop was not exactly happy with it, and helped them take down the new Sentinels.
Shortly afterward, when Cyclops called Bishop's team in to deal with Sinister, who had resurfaced after faking his suicide. Angel was killed in the first battle, shot in the chest while flying.
