"Earth 811"

Point of Divergence: Possibility: Jean Grey does not encounter the Phoenix when saving her teammates in the shuttle crash, or the crash never occurs.

Points of Interest:

  • This is the first alternate reality encountered by the X-Men. Though only Kitty Pryde was there, and she was unconscious at the time, all the X-Men shared her memories afterwards via Professor X's telepathy, and Rachel's outburst in Uncanny X-Men #188.
  • The point of divergence was originally thought to be the assassination of Senator Robert Kelly by Mystique and the Brotherhood of Evil Mutants. This has since been proven false.
  • While the X-Men died in this timeline, it is clear that the fight for freedom went on without them, and that other mutant allies may have survived.
  • The Sentinels were finally stopped in the future via a reprogramming done by Phoenix III and Kate Pryde/Widget.
  • After being killed by Sentinels, Wolverine was resurrected by X-51, the Watchman of the Earth X timeline and sent to other realities as a "Herald."
  • The "Days of Future Tense" timeline bears enough similarity to the core events to be included in this lecture, but there are some differences that show it to be another divergence, like the circumstances of Nightcrawler's death and the reason Psylocke returned to England. This reality is classified as Earth 2992.
