Synopsis by Jeff Harris:
On the mid-Atlantic coast of North America, an Infinite patrol in a sensor control sensor picks up the energy signatures of two Alpha class mutants en route on an enhanced Sentinel: Weapon X and Jean Grey. Afraid to arouse Apocalypse and anger him for what they believe could be something small, they decide to send a request for another Alpha class mutant to take them down. The pair enters the complex and are attacked by a Balrog-class meta cyborg, who Jean takes on quickly because of lack of time. While Logan goes to take out the control center, which was easy enough, Havok attacks Jean and it doesn't look good, but luckily Weapon X drops in just in time and the couple race out and hitch a ride on the damaged Sentinel. Havok revives and is about to blast them out of the sky, but the Sentinel shoots off his hands, one which grabs Alex and tosses him in the transporter, and the other operates it. So Jean and Logan have finally escaped along with the rest of the Sentinel airlift ferrying humans to Eurasia (see Amazing X-Men for more details). In New York, Cyclops confronts Apocalypse about Sinister's betrayal and his deliverance of plans to two mutant couriers (guess who). McCoy interrupts, informing En Sabah Nur that Havok has been fused with the Sentinel's hand on a molecular level and must operate on him. Abyss and Holocaust are waiting in Apocalypse's chambers and inform Scott of Logan's part in the destruction of the control center, which doesn't make him all that happy. Logan and Jean arrive back in London and listen in on the Human High Council Central Committee's plans (comprised of Bolivar and Moira Trask, Brian Braddock, Emma Frost and Mariko Yashida). The majority of the council wants to perform a doomsday strike on North America after the airlift, only opposed by Mariko, and Jean. But suddenly, in the middle of their discussion, Apocalypse's assassin Magma blasts her way in and burns Braddock, but he survives the blast and Magma is easily dispatched by Weapon X. This only serves to help prove the Council's point that Project Scorched Earth must be initiated.
