Real Name: Roberto DaCosta
Sunspot chose to use his mutant powers for good and fight against Apocalypse rather than serve him. He joined Gambit and his X-Ternals in their quest to steal from Apocalypse’s elite to supply the basic needs for humans. As part of Magneto’s master plan to restore the timeline, Sunspot and the X-Ternals traveled across the galaxy to the Shi’ar Empire to retrieve the M’Kraan Crystal. After escaping the Imperial Guard twice and being saved by the Starjammers, they X-Ternals learned that they were destined to steal the M’Kraan Crystal and save the galaxy. The Starjammers then led the X-Ternals to the M’Kraan Crystal and Roberto stayed outside to stall the approaching Shi’ar troopers, giving Gambit time to find the crystal and retrieve a shard of it. When the M’Kraan Crystal began to radiate its energies out of control, Sunspot attempted to absorb the energy to save his friends from crystallizing (something that the energies did to everybody else). This worked and the energies made Sunspot glow white instead of his usual black. To further complicate matters, Rictor and Gladiator arrived yet again to try and arrest them. The supercharged Sunspot fought Gladiator until the crystal’s radiating energies crystallized Gladiator and everybody but the X-Ternals and Rictor. Sunspot realized that he could no longer absorb the crystal’s energies and sent everybody into the heart of the M’Kraan Crystal. Roberto also knew that he could no longer control the massive energy within him and ordered Lila to leave him behind. As Sunspot burned up from the built-up M’Kraan energies, Lila unlocked her latent mutant power once more and sent the X-Ternals and Rictor back to Earth.
