Codename Etymology: Pronounced pə-lăr'ĭs [From Modern Latin stella polaris "the pole star," from Latin polus "end of an axis, the sky," from Gk. polos "pivot, axis of a sphere, the sky"]; The (current) North Star.
Powers & History: Polaris could conduct magnetic energy and use it to fire pulse bolts, create force fields and fly. In addition she could manipulate ferrous materials and absorb electricity to supercharge her own electromagnetic fields. Originally an Alpha class mutant, Polaris at some undetermined point in the past formed a partnership with Rogue. The partnership ended when the two fought and Rogue permanently absorbed half of Poraris’s power. Soon after Polaris was captured and remanded to the breeding pens. In her delusional state, Polaris was totally convinced she was the daughter of Magneto. Yet, genetic scans conducted by the Beast revealed that she was not related to him at all. One night Polaris witnessed Cyclops help some prisoners escape and in her delusional state believed him to be Magneto. She begged him to take her with him but was left behind. When Alex Summers (Havok) interrogated her she lashed out with her powers and as punishment was take to the Beast to be tortured. Cyclops interrupted the torture and ordered she be put back in the pens. Later that night Cyclops appeared again and broke her free. During the escape attempt they were intercepted by Northstar and Aurora who were out on patrol and much to Cyclops's surprise Polaris was able to use her powers to take out Aurora. Cyclops then led her to the docks where she was handed over to Val Cooper of the underground movement to be taken to safety.
