Full Name: Raven DarkholmeMystique’s history is quite complex and has close ties to both Magneto and Destiny. Mystique raised her son Kurt in Germany but often left him to go on missions for Magneto. Some of these missions included finding and delivering the mutants Dazzler and Rogue to Magneto. Mystique returned to Germany once with Magneto and Quicksilver to discover that Kurt had been kidnapped by their town’s villagers. They found him in a church where the villagers planned to sacrifice him in a ritual to send all mutant demons back to hell. Mystique was furious and ruthlessly killed all the villagers, terrifying her son in the process. Realizing that her son would never be safe in a world that feared and hated mutants, she asked Magneto to take care of him and train him.
Mystique then began to ferry human and mutant refugees to Avalon, taking everything they had as payment. While she did deliver some to Avalon, she felt that some people didn’t deserve peace and dumped them into the ocean instead. For this reason, she felt that she wasn’t fit to enter Avalon herself. When Magneto needed Destiny to confirm Bishop’s claim of a better reality, Mystique was asked to ferry Nightcrawler there. She was also asked to assist Kurt in retrieving Destiny since she was the only person outside Avalon who knew her.
Mystique came to her son's rescue when Nightcrawler was picked up by the pirate Callisto. This was actually a chance encounter between the two, as Mystique was hunting Callisto down for taking and killing her refugees. Mystique then got Nightcrawler to the Antarctic but refused to enter Avalon with him. Nightcrawler forcefully convinced her and the two were led to Avalon by Brother Cain. There she reunited with her old friend Destiny, who did not want to leave Avalon. Little did Mystique or Nightcrawler know that they had been followed to Avalon by the forces of Apocalypse. When the Shadow King (one of those forces) began possessing citizens and ravaging Avalon, Mystique was also possessed, and the Shadow King made her body morph uncontrollably. He also intimated that Nightcrawler's father might have been Sabretooth. While inside Mystique, the Shadow King was defeated by the combined powers of Nightcrawler, Switchback and Damask. With Avalon safe, Mystique ferried Nightcrawler and Destiny back to Apocalypse’s empire. Her current whereabouts and status are unknown.
