Synopsis & Review by Thunderbird III:
Synopsis: Logan is happy to see Jean but when she shows no response to him he tries to attack Sinister but is held back by Magneto who wants to know the motivations for Sinister’s actions. Sinister explains he’s got no interest in succeeding Apocalypse but instead all his life he’s looked for the descendants of Mutant Alpha (the first ever mutant) as he believes the powers that such a mutant receives would be passed through the generations. As it turns out Jean Grey is the descendant and her powers are now under Sinister’s control. He offers to share the powers with Magneto but the offer is turned down as the X-Men and the Sinister Six engage in battle.

Cloak absorbs Gambit, Dazzler and Nightcrawler in his cloak. Storm shocks him into submission but only Dazzler and Kurt emerge from the coat. Sauron attacks Magneto from behind but Quicksilver throws himself in the way and suffers the killing blow instead. In retaliation Magneto impales Sauron. The X-Men appear to be on the cusp of victory when Jean Grey starts using her powers. While Sunfire tries to absorb the damage from her powers, Logan manages to distract her long enough for Psylocke to use her psychic dagger on Jean Grey. Sunfire loses control and his final act is falling on Sinister, creating an explosion and charring Sinister badly.

Jean Grey has regained control of her mind and she levitates Sinister’s body as Logan chops him into bits. Psylocke examines the kids and says she can undo the brainwashing with her psychic knife but Kirika makes her use it on her first. With her memory returning she discovers that she is no clone but Mariko and Logan’s actual daughter. Magneto mourns the loss of his son and Nightcrawler tells Rogue that he was unable to save Gambit. Magneto confesses his sins to the world. Later in jail he asks Jean Grey to take over the X-Men for him and she agrees.

Review: Not exactly the end I was hoping for. I’m not sure I buy any of this Mutant Alpha nonsense. Isn’t the AOA supposed to be exactly like 616 except Xavier’s dead? Hoe come we haven’t had Sinister mention any of his Mutant Alpha nonsense here. As a six issue tale this wasn’t bad except to many characters behaved in a very clichéd way and a lot of strange things happened for which we got no explanation (such a who Pyslocke- Betsy Braddock, Kwannon). Plus the art was terrible. You really struggle to tell whats goin on and since this was the action issue it really showed. It was a fun series in that it bought back a Universe I really liked but it wasn’t a patch on the original AOA run and for some parts was poorly written and drawn.
