Generation Next #1
Synopsis by Jeff Harris:
In the wilds of Colorado, Jonothon Evan Starsmore, a young mutant with intense psionic power which he can wield through a hole in his chest, is in one-on-one combat with Paige Guthrie, who can shed her skin to reveal new forms underneath. Husk manages to surprise Chamber and smothers him with kisses, but he tosses her off rather than killing her, as Colossus would have approved of, according to his survivalist dogma. When the pair are ambushed themselves by the entrance of Mondo, who can make himself literally a part of the scenery by combining his body with the organic substances around him. The pair is able to overwhelm him, but Piotr Rasputin, leader of the next generation of X-Men, chooses that moment to arrive. Setting his sights on Jono, he prepares to take him out when Husk leaps onto him and husks her arms into acid which burns his organic steel skin. Unluckily for her, Shadowcat was phased in Colossus' body and comes out, bearing a set of claws which she uses to tear at the girl's flesh. She is saved by the timely entrance of Skin, and while Rasputin is distracted, Chamber sends a tree falling on him. Husk then forms a bio-pattern that Katya can't phase through and takes both her and Skin out of the fight. Piotr gets loose to try to help his wife, but is surrounded by Vincente, a mutant who can turn his body into other physical states, such as liquid or gas. The sudden presence of Magneto ends the battle, and he goes off into the team's fort-like base, where he informs them of their mission, which is to find a time-traveling mutant who could get them back to the time of Charles Xavier's death and stop it from ever happening. They use Know-It-All who is linked cybernetically to all sorts of computer systems, to hack into Apocalypse's databases and find someone suitable for the task at hand. While there appears to be no chance of rescuing Illyana Rasputin from the Core in Seattle, she is their only option, so the team sets out to save her.
