Powers & History: By spinning a bull-roarer (a weight attacked to a string), Gateway can open a portal to anywhere he wishes. The size of the portal is apparently limited only by the size of the string.

Following Apocalypse's rise to power, Gateway cooped himself up at Wundagore Mountain, determined to learn as much as possible about the world before Apocalypse destroyed it. There he was protected by Carol Danvers and the Human High Council. When Weapon X came to ask for his assistance in the Council’s nuclear strike on America, Gateway was initially against it. Gateway told them that he was not apart of this war, but thought differently after Carol sacrificed herself protecting him and Weapon X. Still unsure on if he should allow a nuclear strike to be made, Gateway was taken to Paris to meet with the Human High Council. While there he was shown first-hand the atrocities happening to humans in America and he decided to help. After being protected by Weapon X from Pierce yet again, Gateway opened a portal large enough for the entire Human Armada to pass though and teleported them to America.
