Factor-X #2
Synopsis by Jeff Harris:
Back deep in the pens, the Brain Trust, six brains of powerful telepaths, are used to anesthetize the prisoners, those of which include mutants Tommy Chang and Samantha DuPris, who are rescued from their pathetic existence by a mysterious savior, whom another prisoner, the lime-tressed Lorna Dane, believes to be Magneto. She attempts to get him to take her with him, but he refusses from the time being, throwing Lorna into despair, as she believes herself to be his daughter. Later, Cyclops and Havok bow in the presence of Apocalypse, seated on a mound of human skulls. He is confident that despite Sinister's escape and more than likely his plans to dethrone En Sabah Nur, he will not succeed, and claims that perhaps he will take Scott as his new horseman, something which Alex isn't all that happy about. Once the pair leaves, they have a bit of an argument about Scott's always getting everything "handed to [him] on a silver platter, but Cyclops claims he never asked for the job, furthering solidifying his brother's resolve against him. In the Central Security Tower of the breeding pens, Havok meets with Sam and Elizabeth Guthrie to discuss the previous nights break in which resulted in Chang's and DuPris' escape, and the trio decides to interrogate Lorna Dane to get some answers. Unfortunately for them, she doesn't prove to be a lot of help--she still thinks it was Magneto that came to the pens, so they decide to hand her over to the Beast, who tells them of Polaris' origin. Evidently after the horrible deaths of her parents in the cullings, her magnetic powers first manifested themselves, and she chose to bury her true reality in her own fanciful one where she continues to believe that she is Magneto's daughter. In her travels, she met a younger version of Rogue, who's final conflict ended in the southern belle using her power to take away half of Lorna's power. Alex and the Guthries leave to let McCoy do his work, while Cyclops has a rendezvous with the Bedlam Brothers who are at the ruins of Liberty Island. They are in return met by Angel who talks with them about the potential onset of war between the Eurasian Human High Council and Apocalypse's regime. Once again at Heaven, Alex and Scarlett meet, but once he leaves, the singer immediately calls a contact, revealing that she herself is another spy for the Council. Back at McCoy's lab, Hank is torturing Lorna and preparing to do some "brain salad surgery" when Cyclops arrives and tells him to stop his experiments in light of the fragile Kelly Pact. After blowing up some of the Beast's equipment, Scott orders him to send Polaris back to the pens, and leaves. Late that night, the mysterious man, who turns out to actually be Cyclops, resuces Polaris, and despite an encounter with Northstar and Aurora that ends in their comatose states, he manages to get the magnetic mutant to safety with Val Cooper. Little does he know that Havok saw the exchange and that he is preparing to get revenge on his traitorous brother.
