Powers & History: Deathbird possesses the wings and flight abilities of a true Shi'ar, as well as incredibly sharp talons. As eldest sibling in the Shi’ar royal family, Cal’Syee became the ruler of the Shi’ar empire, only to be overthrown by her younger brother D’Ken. Deathbird then became a member of the Starjammers, interstellar pirates dedicated to stopping the mad emperor D’Ken. The Starjammers rescued Gambit and his X-Ternals from becoming crystallized by the radiating energies of the M’Kraan Crystal. Thinking the X-Ternals to be chosen ones destined to seal the Crystal, they took the X-Ternals to the planet where the Crystal was kept. Deathbird then joined them on their mission to steal it.

When they arrived on the planet, the group was surrounded by the troops of D’Ken. While Jubilee, Sunspot and Carosella occupied the guards, Deathbird led Gambit and Lila to the crystal. Deathbird initially tried to stop Gambit from entering the M’Kraan Crystal to rescue Lila but eventually entered with him. While there, she found her brother D’Ken frozen in place by the crystal's energies. Trying to capitalize on her brother’s misfortune and kill him, Deathbird was herself frozen by the crystal. After Gambit stopped the Crystal from radiating out of control, it is possible Deathbird and D’Ken were released from their stasis.
