Real Name: Scott SummersJust before Apocalypse began his rise to power, Christopher and Katherine Summers tried to flee the US with their two sons Scott and Alex. Their plane was abducted and the two boys jumped from the plane safely using the only parachute. Seeing the genetic potential in the boys, Sinister took them in and became a second father to them. Scott always seemed to be the favourite of Sinister which caused much jealousy and hatred from Alex. Scott was never arrogant about this favoritism and often tried to give attention to his brother but Havok retained his grudge. Before Scott and Alex were promoted to Prelate, they reunited with their biological father, who had been held captive by Apocalypse for years. This caused some tension between Scott and Sinister, angry that he never told him about his father. Cyclops’s father then transformed into a Brood and attacked, forcing Cyclops to kill him. With his dying wish, the now human Corsair told Cyclops to look after his brother. His father’s death moved Cyclops, who decided that he isn’t who he wanted to become and it was time to make some changes.
When X-Man Jean Grey was captured by Apocalypse’s forces, she was offered the life of being one of the mutant elite. During this time Cyclops developed feelings for Jean and because of her, wanted to change the world around him even more. Sinister was also pleased at Jean’s arrival because her and Cyclops’ DNA merged together to create the perfect mutant offspring and weapon against Apocalypse, Nate Grey. Jean’s stay was short lived as she was rescued by Weapon X, leading to a fight between him and Cyclops. Cyclops lost one of his eyes in the battle but blew off one of Weapon X’s hands before he and Jean escaped. Cyclops’ confusion as to what his role in this world should be was further compounded by the mysterious words given to him by Sinister before his disappearance.
Over time Cyclops decided to secretly rescue several mutants from Apocalypse’s pens. Unknown to him, one of these mutants was his genetically created son Nate. Even while secretly betraying the will of Apocalypse, he was still showered in praise and Apocalypse even considered making him a horseman in the future. This caused Alex to hate his brother all the more who now considered that he would only be recognized if Scott was dead. While rescuing Lorna Dane from the Apocalypse’s pens, Cyclops was followed by Havok who witnessed his brother’s betrayal.
Soon after, Jean returned to free the pens before the Human High Council dropped their nuclear bombs but was captured by Havok. He then presented Jean to Cyclops and tried to make him kill her to prove his loyalty to Apocalypse. When Cyclops refused, he was attacked and imprisoned by his brother. Jean and Cyclops were then given over to the Dark Beast for genetic testing. The two decided to put their differences aside and broke free from Dark Beast. They then decided to free all the prisoners in the pens or die trying. By destroying Apocalypse’s brain trust, the prisoners were free from their mental dampening and revolted. As they began to escape with the prisoners, they were confronted by Havok who was determined to destroy his brother. Scott stopped Alex but refused to kill him and they continued to lead the prison break.
This mistake would prove disastrous as Havok regained consciousness and went to seek his revenge. Havok snuck up behind Scott and Jean and attacked Jean viciously. Scott, furious with his brother for his never ending jealousy, was then attacked by Alex and seemingly killed. Cyclops survived and was imprisoned for his involvement with Apocalypse after Apocalypse’s defeat.
