Guido was a roadie for rock star Lila Cheney before the coming of Apocalypse. Deciding to fight Apocalypse rather than join him, Carosella joined Gambit and his X-Ternals to rob from the mutant elite to provide supplies for the downtrodden human population. Lila Cheney also decided to help and became their human liaison. Lila also began a relationship with Gambit, much to the dismay of Carosella who also had feelings for her. Always protective of others (especially Lila and Jubilee), Carosella was often opposed to Gambit’s rash decisions which endangered his friends. However, Guido’s dislike for Gambit did not stop him from assisting when the X-Ternals traveled to the Shi’ar Empire to bring back the M’Kraan Crystal.
Upon their arrival, the Shi’ar Imperial Guard tried to apprehend the X-Ternals. Gladiator tried to crush Carosella with a giant tree but Guido absorbed the impact and punched Gladiator into space. This allowed the X-Ternals time to escape from the guard as well as Rictor, a mutant trying to apprehend them to please Apocalypse. Rictor allied himself with the Imperial Guard and they tracked down the X-Ternals together only to be rescued by the Starjammers. These space pirates informed the X-Ternals that they were destined to save the galaxy. The Starjammers took the X-Ternals to the planet that housed the M’Kraan Crystal and teleported them down. Carosella remained outside where the crystal was housed with Sunspot and Jubilee to give Gambit time to retrieve the crystal. He succeeded in his task and Lila teleported the X-Ternals and a defeated Rictor back to Earth.
Rictor tried to apprehend the X-Ternals again upon their arrival and Carosella split up with Jubilee to get the M’Kraan crystal back to Magneto. It was then that Guido revealed that he’d been captured by Apocalypse months ago and had a chip implanted in his brain. If he did not obey Apocalypse’s orders, the chip would detonate and kill him as well as all those around him. To protect his friends, Guido obeyed and took both the M’Kraan crystal shard from Jubilee and Magneto’s son Charles as well. Carosella delivered these to Apocalypse under the condition that Lila Cheney and Jubilee would be safe from harm. When the X-Men battled their way into Apocalypse’s stronghold, Carosella was forced to hold baby Charles hostage to prevent Magneto from attacking Apocalypse. This plan was thwarted by Charles’ enraged mother Rogue who drained Guido of his power and crushed him.
