Cerebra's Files: Age of Apocalypse

Banshee

Real Name: Sean Cassidy
Affiliation: X-Men
Relatives: Theresa (Sonique, daughter), Thomas (cousin, presumed deceased)
Status: Deceased (Abyss)
Alternate-X Versions: (616), (DoFP)
Codename Etymology: Pronounced băn'shē [From Old Irish, baen "woman" + síde: "fairy, otherwordly"]; A female spirit known for wailing, and said to be the harbinger of death.
Powers & History: Banshee possessed the mutant ability of superhuman hearing. Additionally his vocal chords could project sonic energy as concussive force or energy lances, to shatter or disintegrate matter, or to cause unconsciousness, trances, or disorientation in others. He could also use these abilities to fly.

Sean Cassidy retired from active duty as an X-Man sometime during the war against Apocalypse, but returned on Magneto’s request. Upon his return, Banshee became second in command for Quicksilver’s team of X-Men. The team consisted of himself, Quicksilver, Iceman, Storm, Dazzler and Exodus. Banshee accompanied Quicksilver’s team to aid in the final evacuation of humans from North America. They were also asked to secretly download programming into the Human High Council’s Sentinels (who would be performing the evacuation) so they would not attack the X-Men. However, both of these tasks were complicated by the appearance of Apocalypse’s forces. In the battle, Banshee came face to face with Abyss, one of Apocalypse’s four Horsemen. Abyss would not fight Banshee but instead told him to retrieve Quicksilver or a small boy would die. Banshee did so and Quicksilver managed to defeat the Horseman.

After succeeding in evacuating the humans to Europe, Banshee and the team returned to the Mansion to find it empty. The team learned that Magneto and Bishop had been captured by Apocalypse and Quicksilver decided to rescue Bishop from the Madri Priests. Banshee and Storm accompanied him. While Storm rescued Bishop, Banshee and Quicksilver went to destroy the original Jamie Madrox. Once he died, all the Madri Priests would be left as empty shells. However, Quicksilver could not bring himself to kill Jamie when he realized that he was just an innocent victim. Banshee tried to convince Quicksilver that it still had to be done when Abyss (who had not died earlier) intervened.

Banshee decided to end Abyss’s evil once and for all. Vowing to fight the evils of this world to the end, Banshee dove into Abyss, engulfing himself in Abyss’s tendrils. Banshee then let out a massive sonic scream that destroyed them both.
