Real Name: En Sabah NurAfter five millennia on Earth, having rampaged through the globe and then retrated into the Celestial Ship, Apocalypse witnessed the accidental death of Charles Xavier at the hands of Xavier’s own son Legion and decided to launch his offensive against humanity. This offensive was decades earlier than in the normal 616 universe and there were no X-Men to stop it. While Magneto did form his own X-Men, they were too late in preventing Apocalypse from taking over North America. Always favoring survival of the fittest, Apocalypse then had his lieutenants (his Horsemen) battle each other until only four remained.
Apocalypse continued his domination over the planet until only the European High Council and the X-Men stood in his way. Humans throughout North America were mercilessly slaughtered and unworthy mutants were placed in holding pens. They would later be used in genetic experiments by the Dark Beast or broken down into primordial soup to be reformed as Infinite soldiers. As his empire grew, those close to Apocalypse began their own agendas. His most trusted Horseman Sinister deserted him, not wanting so much genetic potential to be squandered in Apocalypse’s survivalist world. Another one of Apocalypse’s horsemen, Mikhail, went rogue and abandoned his master. His two remaining horsemen were too focused on their own battles with the X-Men to see Apocalypse’s ultimate vision.
Even with his horsemen preoccupied, Apocalypse remained powerful and still had his loyal followers. After discovering Magneto’s whereabouts, he personally abducted him and Bishop. His Madri Priests interrogated the captive Bishop to learn of Magneto’s plan to erase this reality’s existence. Apocalypse’s Pale Riders (Danielle Moonstar, Damask and Dead Man Wade) as well as the Shadow King were also sent to follow Nightcrawler and destroy Avalon, the only human-mutant sanctuary. Apocalypse sent Magma on a pre-emptive strike against the European High Council in hopes of destroying them. Finally, he sent his deadliest assassin Domino to destroy Nate Grey, a telepath whose power threatened that of Apocalypse himself.
After discovering Magneto’s plan and obtaining the M’Kraan Crystal (as well as Magneto’s own son Charles), Apocalypse’s master plan was nearing completion. The European High Council was en route to drop bombs all across North America, only to be destroyed by Apocalypse’s forces soon after. Those who rose from the ashes of this final battle would be deemed worthy to exist in his world. His plan was eventually thwarted by Magneto, Nate Grey and the X-Men. In his final fight against Magneto, Apocalypse was literally torn apart by the master of magnetism.
