Amazing X-Men #2
Synopsis by Jeff Harris:This issue opens with a scene of the terror-stricken Jeremy Graves, trapped in an unknown location by the mysterious figure who proves to be the newest horseman of Apocalypse known as Abyss (the Genoshan mutate Nils Styger in the normal Marvel Universe). Abyss proceeds to terrify the child further, and engulfs him in his tendril-like appendages, drawing him into the void contained in his body. Back at the evac site, Quicksilver, Dazzler, Banshee and Exodus square off against the Brotherhood and their army of Sentinels. In the ensuing battle, Spyne, Yeti, and Arclight are dispatched fairly easily, Quicksilver is injured by Copycat masquerading as his sister the deceased Scarlet Witch, and Dazzler is blasted by the Sentinels, offering the opportunity for Jeffries and Carlysle to escape. Exodus makes a futile attempt to protect his friends when Storm shows up, using a massive lightning strike as an electrical pulse to disrupt the Sentinels for a few moments, and Iceman returns from his "demise", none the worse for wear. While all this is going on, Banshee goes off solo after the Cardinal Madri, tracking him deep into the woods and to the "Ark that brought the Brotherhood here" (perhaps Ship?). Sean is slightly alarmed to discover him dead, and even more so to discover the killer as Abyss, claiming that he did it because the Madri failed. He makes his demands known quickly: bring Quicksilver in exchange for the boy, whom he still holds captive in his body. Fleeing in fear as much as to report this information to the others, Banshee curses himself for his lack of courage, and gets back only to discover all the humans on the ground in agony, affected by Abyss' psionic tremor. Storm invites herself along with Pietro, bespeaking a bit of a romantic relationship between the two. When they arrive, they discover the child unharmed, yet catatonic in the depths of the vessel. Abyss chooses this time to ambush Quicksilver, but takes care of him fairly easily by pushing him into his own teleportational void, and thereby saving Jeremy and releasing him from his stupor. He is reunited with his parents, and Dazzler reports back the reprogramming job they did on the Sentinels worked like a charm, and the evacuation is nearly complete. At that moment in New York City, Apocalypse's minions Rex and Sebastian Shaw interrogate and torture Karma in an effort to retrieve the location of the X-Men's hidden base, when En Sabah Nur himself comes out of the shadows and reveals he already knows where they are and prepares for a battle of the survival of the fittest between himself and Magneto.
