Powers & History: Abyss’s body was a portal to another dimension and he can absorb other people or things into it. His body can unravel into tendril-like appendages and appears to unleash a psychic tremor causing extreme pain to select individuals (or possibly just humans) around him.

The history of Abyss is largely unknown other than being the son of Mystique. Rumor has is that he broke out of Sinister’s labs only to break into Apocalypse’s lair and assassinate one of Apocalypse’s then-Horsemen, . This impressed Apocalypse who granted Abyss the privilege of being his newest Horseman. Abyss was then sent to Maine to stop a human evacuation to Europe. While there, he kidnapped a small boy to draw out Quicksilver, hoping to capture him and further impress Apocalypse. Abyss’s plan was foiled by Quicksilver and Storm and he returned to Apocalypse in defeat.

He was then placed in charge of interrogating Bishop, where he encountered Quicksilver yet again. Abyss was challenged by Quicksilver’s second in command, Banshee, and the two fought. Abyss underestimated Banshee’s power and Banshee sacrificed himself to finally destroy the Horseman.
