Sidri
Aside from their sharply-pointed legs and armored bulk, each Sidri possesses another offensive weapon: an energy blast emitted from the single eye. The blast is the pinkish-red color of the eye, and is very similar to Cyclops's optic beam. However, the Sidri blast is much less powerful than that of Cyclops, and is best used in a swarming attack by a pack of hunters. Finally, the Sidri have a gestalt ability to combine their bodies into a giant flying creature, similar in form to a Sidri-style manta ray, but hundreds of times larger, and with four small legs. This super-Sidri can also fire optic beams from the combined eye, and is exceptionally maneuverable for its size. The super-Sidri is held together by a complex energy
The X-Men first encountered the Sidri when they followed Corsair to Earth from the Shi'ar Empire. They swarmed the X-Mansion, effectively destroying it, then merged into the super-Sidri ship to follow Cyclops, Storm and Corsair in the escaping Blackbird. A combination of Cyclops's optic blasts and ramming speed knocked the gestalt apart, but it was Corsair who finished off the hunters by detonating a fuel tank near them with his blaster. Following the X-Men's subsequent abduction into space by Deathbird and the Brood, they returned home via spaceship. On the way, they passed a wounded Sidri ship, but could not stop to help it. Still, Shadowcat managed to transmit a program that rewrote the surviving Sidri's nervous systems so they could survive their crisis. Years later this action would come back to haunt her teammates.
A few years later, Nightcrawler, now a member of the British supergroup Excalibur, was kidnapped and tortured by the three Sidri who had survived their space disaster thanks to Shadowcat's programming years before. Unfortunately, the physiological changes the program had wrought, such as heavier armor, radiation tolerance and a more humanoid body with fingers, toes and a face, made these Sidri incapable of rejoining the collective mind of their bretheren. Dismissed from Sidri society, they had returned to Earth to exact revenge on those who had wronged them. The Sidri then lured Colossus to their ship with clues about Nightcrawler, hoping to kill him as well. In the course of fighting for their lives, the former X-Men slammed the Sidri together, but the Sidri were able to form a gestalt of their own, albeit not a spaceship, but instead a huge, multiarmed Mutant Sidri.
