Mephistoids

Mephistoids are a felinoid race from Try'lsart (Mephist IV). They have very cat-like faces, except with lips, pointed ears, claws and lare bushy tails. The tails do not appear to be prehensile in anyway. With the exception of these attributes, Mephistoids appear quite humanoid, even to the point of having sexual dimorphism similar to humans. They clearly appear to be mammalian, though being descended from marsupials is also a possibility.

Mephistoids are very agile and quick, but do not have any extraordinary strength. Their senses are highly acute, making them excellent trackers. They appear to be omnivorous but have evolved the sharp canine teeth of carnivorous hunters, indicating that meat has long been a key component of their diet. They have one other unique attribute, which is a pheromone released by their bodies that contains mind-controlling properties.

1200 years ago, the Shi'ar were about the technological and military equals of the Mephistoids, and the two races came to blows. Due to the Mephistoid pheromones, the Shi'ar were severely beaten and their military nearly destroyed. The tide turned when a Shi'ar ship crashed on Try'lsart and the crew was taken in by peaceful females in an abbey of sorts. The captain, A T'Kyll Alabar, realized that Mephistoid females secreted the pheromone (apparently only males served in the military), and slaughtered the women. He extracted the pheromone from the corpses and used it to inspire the Shi'ar to victory. The Mephistoids were crushed and quarantined on Try'lsart.

Unfortunately, little else is known about the Mephistoids, since they rebelled years ago, and most, if not all of their cities were razed. (Mam'selle) Hepzibah, a member of the Starjammers, may be the only Mephistoid left. Certainly she thinks she is, since Try'lsart's location is classified.
