Powers & History: None (human). Agent Brand is in charge of S.W.O.R.D., an offshoot of S.H.I.E.L.D. that deals with otherworldly beings and situations. She has green hair, presumably dyed, and tattoos of "Anna" and Grace" on her shoulders. She runs S.W.O.R.D. from an orbiting space station called the Peak, and employs a multitude of human and aliens species. Brand was approached one day by an alien calling himself Ord, from a world known as the Breakworld. Ord’s people had seen a glimpse of the future where his world would be destroyed by a mutant on earth, possibly an X-Man, a fact which her own pre-cogs were able to back up. However, Brand’s job is to try and keep violence for such things to a minimum, so she and Ord went about taking his alien research to geneticist Kavita Rao, who was able to develop a cure for mutation, even though that meant resurrecting the dead X-Man Colossus and imprisoning him while they extracted the Legacy Virus cure from his body as the base.
Brand kept the more gruesome details from her superiors and Nick Fury, who was supposed to be backing her up on this operation, but Ord was not able to sit idly by, and attacked the X-Men on a couple occasions, even forcing the cure on one of their students. When he attacked them when they infiltrated Benetech Labs where the cure was located, he was nearly beaten to death by a freed Colossus, until Brand, Fury, and numerous forces of theirs arrived to stop them and revealed that Ord cannot be harmed since he is an alien diplomat. However, the X-Men spilled the details to Fury that Brand had kept secret, including Colossus’ unlawful imprisonment, but before she could be dealt with, there was a riot by mutants looking for the cure and Ord tried to escape in his ship, but was stopped by Wolverine.
Fury then reported Brand in to their superiors for punishment, and she pleaded her case before the board very strongly, and they let her return to duty to try and prevent an intergalactic war between Earth and the Breakworld. To help, Brand planted a mole within the Xavier Institute, and had numerous pre-cogs and psychics working to find out just who will destroy the Breakworld. Eventually, this paid off and she discovered that the X-Man Ord brought back to life, Colossus, would be the one to destroy his home world. Brand kept this info from Ord, but he found out anyway when Danger infiltrated his prison and helped him to escape back to Earth to correct his mistake, with Brand and numerous, heavily armed troops following to try and stop him.
