Codename Etymology: Pronounced ăd'vər-sĕr'ē [from Latin adversrius, "enemy", from adversus, "against"]; An enemy.
Powers: The Adversary is Forge's nemesis, an evil spirit that constantly tries to plunge the world into chaos. He can do many magical things, and is very powerful in that regard. Using the form of Forge's mentor Naze, he tricked Storm into nearly killing Forge, the only one who could stop him. He then shunted Storm and Forge into another reality, where they were the only two people on Earth, and widened a tear in the fabric of reality that Forge himself had opened years before with a spirit-spell, causing Dallas, the seat of Forge's powers, to transform into a mishmash of eras, from the age of dinosaurs to the far-flung future. Eventually, the X-Men, with Forge and Storm, managed to pin the Adversary down, but they couldn't stop him. Forge was forced to use a spirit-spell to seal the Adversary away, requiring the sacrifice of all of the X-Men and Madelyne Pryor's lives. (Roma later resurrected them, saying the Adversary was part of nature and could only be contained, never destroyed.) The Adversary returned by incorporating himself into Haven's unborn fetus, which allowed him to return to the world, and began to torment Forge when he was the leader of X-Factor. It killed the entire team, which nearly drove Forge mad with grief. Finally, using both technology and magic, Forge used the spirit-spell one final time to restore his teammamtes' spirits and defeat the Adversary.
